As 2009 comes to a close, the Web Marketing Association would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual award programs a success this year.
Our Award Show Participants - you trust us to judge your websites and online advertising fairly and without favoritism, with expert judges, and create an outstanding marketing opportunity for you when you win. The Difference Between IAC Awards and WebAwards
We recently received the following question:
"Can you clarify for me the difference between the Internet Advertising
Awards Website category and the WebAwards."
Simply, the WebAwards (www.webaward.org) focus on the development of the total website and accepts entries from April through May. Micro sites tend to do well, but landing pages do not have enough content and navigation and tend to be at a disadvantage.
The Internet Advertising Competition (www.iacaward.org) focuses on the advertising effectiveness of a website (among other forms of online ads) and accepts entries from Nov through January. It does not look at overall website development, rather the effectiveness of the site as a branding and/or direct marketing tool.
If you visit the guidelines section of each website, you will see the details of the competitions.

Merchandise Claim Notification Scam
WE have received several emails like the following:
The Web Marketing Association is based in Connecticut and does not have anything to do with this or any "merchandise claim notification"
As for vehicle entitlement requiring a redemption fee of $47.97 - two things come to mind. First you get what you pay for and I don't know what vehicle you can expect for $47.97. Second, if it sounds to good to be true....
I have just received a merchandise claim notification from IAC Awards Center Director, Las Vegas, NV for a vehicle entitlement requiring a redempton fee of $47.97. I would like to know if this is a legitimate merchandise incentive offer, or a scam.

Organic, Inc. Wins 2009 WebAward Best of Show
The 2009 Best of Show WebAward is presented to Organic, Inc. for their exceptional work on "Bank of America - Morris on Campus” website. The site was also recognized as Best Bank WebAward.
Bank of America enlisted Organic to help B of A maintain this leadership position by developing an online marketing program that would meet the needs of students in their current stage of life. This is the second time Organic, Inc. has won the coveted Best of Show WebAward. They also received top honors at the very first WebAward competition in 1997 for their work on Philips Home Theater Web site.

Best Mobile Web Site To Be Named By WebAwards
The Web Marketing Association announces that mobile websites will be added to its 13th annual international WebAward competition as a separate category this year. The WebAwards is the standards-defining competition that sets industry benchmarks based on the seven criteria of a successful Web site. It recognizes the individual and team achievements of Web professionals who create and maintain outstanding Web sites. The deadline for entry in the 2009 WebAwards is May 29, 2008. Complete information and this year’s entry form can be found at www.webaward.org.
“An entire parallel Web universe exists just for phone and PDA users and that universe is expanding rapidly,” said William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association. “We wanted to recognize that mobile websites have come of age and need to be evaluated not against other sites in their industry, but against other mobile sites. Mobile sites have always been welcomed in the WebAwards, but now they can be adjudicated more effectively.”
Some 40% of Web site operators have launched mobile sites and another 22% plan to do so in the next year, according to a new JupiterResearch study. Driving the growth of mobile sites are factors such as the expansion of 3G networks and smartphones and improving prospects for deriving revenue from mobile advertising. Jupiter estimates that increasing page views and usage will push annual mobile display and search advertising revenue to $825 million by 2012.
Web sites are judged on seven criteria, including design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copy writing and ease of use and receive a numeric score. The Web Marketing Association is building an addition to their robust judging system that will allow these sites to be reviewed by a specific set of WebAward judges enabled for the mobile Web. Winners will be announced in September, 2009.

Web Marketing Association Needs Internet Experts To Judge WebAwards
The Web Marketing Association is expecting a record number of participants in its 13th annual international WebAward competition, the standards-defining competition that sets industry benchmarks based on the seven criteria of a successful Web site. They are looking for experienced Internet professionals who can help judge the Website that are entered. Interested individuals can submit their names for consideration using the Judges Nomination Form.
“The WebAwards is different from other Web site award programs because we’re not just a beauty pageant focused on name recognition and design,” said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association. “Our judges are handed picked experts who have hands on experience either leading or developing some of today’s top Websites. These individuals understand that participating as a judge in the WebAwards is one excellent way to give back to the online marketing community and help it to grow and evolve.”
Judges will consist of a select group of Internet professionals who have direct experience designing and managing Web sites,–including members of the media, interactive creative directors, site designers, content providers and webmasters – with an in-depth understanding of the current state-of-the-art in Web site development and technology. Past judges have included top executives from leading organizations such as A&E Television Networks, Agency.com, Blattner Brunner, Bridge Worldwide, The Cincinnati Enquirer, Comedy Central, Disney, Euro RSCG, Ion Global, J. Walter Thompson , John Deere Company, New York Post Interactive, Organic, Inc., Refinery, R/GA, Saatchi & Saatchi, SAP, Starwood Hotels , Sun Microsystems, Warner Bros. Online, Xerox and Zugara.
If you or someone some one in your organization would make a good judge, they can learn more and enter their name for consideration on the WebAward Judges Nomination Form.
“The vast majority of our judges return each year to participate again as a WebAward judge, but some need to take time off from judging and because of the popularity of the WebAwards there is a constant need for new judges”, said Rice. “Prior to the beginning of the judging, we spend several weeks discussing the current state of Web development and how it should be recognized through the WebAwards. Being a WebAward judge is a valuable experience that helps the individual better understand overall Web development and of course looks impressive on a resume or corporate bio”.
